The Belgian mezzo-soprano Sterre Decru (°1999) graduated with distinction from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she passionately combined a Classical Voice major with a minor in Early Music. During her master's degree, Sterre specialized in the genre of opera as a member of the Dutch National Opera Academy. For her two years of studies at the Opera Academy, Sterre was awarded the Scholarship for Excellence by the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. Sterre also completed her master's degree with distinction.

Within the Opera Academy, Sterre has had the chance to perform various opera roles, including Melanto in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, Arminda in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, and Arianna in Haydn’s Arianna a Naxos. Her performance as Arianna was broadcasted on the national radio of The Netherlands: NPO4, and was praised for her "warm voice" and "impressive dramatic performance."

In 2024, Sterre was selected by the Flemish classical radio station Klara as one of their Twintigers: a program dedicated to showcasing young and emerging talent that Klara strongly believes in. Klara described Sterre as a singer who "always manages to strike the right tone, with a lot of nuance and dramatic depth." Sterre's solo recital was broadcasted on the radio station in April 2024, with highlights of the concert featured on VRT MAX. Shortly thereafter, Sterre was also invited by the Dutch television to appear on their program Podium Klassiek, where she was featured as their "young hero" of the week.

As a soloist, Sterre has collaborated with prominent orchestras and ensembles such as the Residentie Orkest, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, and Concerto Köln. With the latter, she performed at the Intra Muros Festival in Limburg, where she was the Young Artist in Residence in 2023.

Sterre is also regularly involved in ensemble and choir projects. She has performed multiple times with Collegium Vocale Gent under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe. This collaboration began in 2021 when the ensemble invited her to participate in their masterclass for young soloists. Following this masterclass, she was invited to join various projects as a choir member, including Schumann's theatrical work Faust at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Mozart’s Requiem in D minor, and Bruckner's Mass No. 3 in F minor. This season Sterre will be joining the ensemble for various other projects, performing in renowned halls such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Bozar in Brussels.

Coming up now:

In 2025, Sterre will be recording her debut CD as part of the Young Talent Trajectory of the Dutch public broadcaster AVROTROS. The album is set to be released before the summer of 2025.
